OUTSTANDING IMPLEMENTATION AND ADOPTION OF SAFE SPORT PRACTICES (SCHOOL)

BRONZE

St Joseph's Catholic School
Refereeing Certificate Program

As part of their commitment to improve safety in sport St Joseph's Catholic School implemented a program that supports its students to become more involved in understanding their sport and participate in a course that would provide them a formal referee qualification.

The school sees the program as effective in allowing students to better understand the rules, risks and ethics involved in a particular sport.

The program involved 14 Physical Activities and Sports Studies students completing a Certificate 1 in Refereeing for the sports of Rugby League and Hockey - the most popular sports at the school.

The course allowed student to build their skills in leadership, strategic thinking and overall responsibility for players and spectators.

As a result of this program the students received Level 1 Accreditation in Refereeing and students can now referee at local gala day competitions and some are already refereeing local games in the community on their weekends.
